Butler To Face Green Bay In Horizon League Tournament

Butler will end a 10-day layoff when it faces #6 seed Green Bay in the opening game of the 2008 Horizon League Softball Championship at Loyola Softball Park in Chicago, Ill., on Thursday, May 8. The Bulldogs (16-27, 5-12 Horizon League) enter the double-elimination tournament as the No. 7 seed. Cleveland State claimed the Horizon League regular season championship and earned a first-round bye as the No 1 seed in the tournament. The winner of the 9 a.m. (CT) Butler-Green Bay game will face the Vikings at 4 p.m. Other first round games will match No. 5 seed UIC against No. 8 seed Youngstown State at 11 a.m., and No. 4 seed Loyola against No. 9 seed Detroit at 1 p.m. No. 2 seed Valparaiso and No. 3 seed Wright State each received a first round bye. The Bulldogs, who placed fourth at the Horizon League Championship a year ago, closed the regular season with a doubleheader at Green Bay on April 27. The Phoenix won both games of that twinbill, 3-2 and 4-2. Butler was idle all of last week for final exams. The Horizon League Championship will continue on Friday and Saturday. The championship game is slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday. If the team with one loss wins the Saturday title game, a second and final championship contest will be played on Sunday at 9 a.m. Wright State is the defending team champion. 2008 Horizon League Softball Championship Thursday, May 8 Friday, May 9
