Butler Ties For 11th Place At Notre Dame Invitational

Junior Lynnsey Showers tied for 19th place in the individual competition and Butler wound up tied for 11th place in the final team standings at the Notre Dame Invitational women's golf tournament played at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind., on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11. Host Notre Dame won the 17-team tournament.
Showers was tied for fifth after the first day of competition with a 36-hole total of 154. She opened with a three-over-par 75 on the 6,000-yard layout and then carded a 79 in the afternoon round. But the Butler scoring leader slipped to an 84 on the final round and finished at 238 to tie with Meaghan LeBlanc of Bradley, Tammy Clelland of Toledo and Suzie Hayes of Notre Dame.
Freshman Lauren Showers shot rounds of 77, 81 and 83 to finish 33rd overall, three strokes behind her older sister. Sophomore Paige McCracken tied for 46th with rounds of 86, 78 and 81, while junior Sarah Swanson tied for 60th with a final score of 253 (85-84-84). Sophomore Niki Garden placed 72nd at 259 (87-91-81).
Butler stood in 10th place after the first day of competition, but slipped one place on the final day to finish in a tie with Indiana.
