Lester Nabs League Player Of The Week Honors

March 3, 2008

Indianapolis, Ind. - After leading the Bulldogs in scoring and on the glass while helping Butler to a pair of crucial league victories, sophomore forward Susan Lester was named the Horizon League's Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Monday (March 3).

Lester averaged a team-best 20.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest in wins at Youngstown State (Feb. 28) and Cleveland State (March 1).

The Anderson, Ind., native went 4-for-7 from the field with three three-pointers for 11 points and added four rebounds in helping Butler edge out the Penguins, 61-60. She followed that performance with an overwhelming effort at Cleveland State, notching a career-high 29 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field and a career-best five treys and a 4-of-4 mark from the line. She also tied her season-best with 13 rebounds, giving her a team-leading eight double-doubles on the year and 17 in her two-year career.

Lester currently leads the squad with 7.2 rebounds per game and 47 three-pointers made.

"We're really excited with the way Susan has played in the last few games," head coach Beth Couture said. "She had been struggling previously, so for her to come back and play as well as she did was not only key in helping us get two important wins on the road but is also going to be a huge boost to her confidence."

Lester is the second Butler player to receive the league's weekly award. Junior center Lade Akande was recognized on three occasions earlier this season (Nov. 14, Nov. 26 and Dec. 3).

Butler closes the regular season on Saturday (March 8) when they host Valparaiso beginning at 12:00 noon in Hinkle Fieldhouse.
