Men's Tennis Claims Wins Over IPFW, IUPUI

Indianapolis, Ind. - A busy day at the Butler Bubble yielded a pair of dual meet victories for the Bulldogs, who scored a 6-1 win over IPFW before notching a 5-2 triumph against IUPUI on Friday (March 21).

Butler staked itself to a 1-0 lead after the doubles competition in the opener against the Mastodons, as Eric Breitenbach and Chris Herron scored an 8-4 win at No. 1 before Ben Raynauld and Bryce Warren chipped in an 8-5 decision at No. 2.

The Bulldogs then cruised through singles play, notching two-set victories in five of six bouts. Raynauld dropped only one game in tallying a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2, while Breitenbach (No. 1), Warren (No. 4) and Brandon Bayliss (No. 5) scored wins in all but three games in their matches.

Butler continued to roll in the night-cap, following the lead of the opening match by claiming the doubles point. Breitenbach and Herron again notched a win at No. 1, while Raynauld and Bayliss added an 8-2 win at No. 2.

Bayliss was the team's top finisher in singles play, sweeping to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Raynauld and Herron also posted two set victories, with the former scoring a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 2 and the later adding a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Ben Shafer rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs, battling for a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (5) victory at No. 6.
 

 

Butler returns to action on Wednesday (March 26) when it takes on host Dayton beginning at 2:00 p.m.
