Men's Tennis Tops Eastern Illinois, 5-2

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins in doubles play to earn the first point of the match before scoring four victories in the singles competition to come away with a 5-2 triumph over Eastern Illinois on Friday (March 6) afternoon at the Butler Bubble.

The win sends the Bulldogs to 5-8 on the year.

The No. 2 doubles tandem of Zach Ervin and Chris Herron scored a swift 8-1 decision over Jeff Rutherford and Matyas Hilgert to give the Bulldogs an early lead before the No. 3 duo of Ben Raynauld and Brandon Bayliss locked up the first point of the match with an 8-4 win over Jamie Firth and Vance Davis.

The Bulldogs then went on to score four two-set decisions in singles play to post their fifth win of the year.

Bryce Warren put up a strong showing at No. 2 singles, ousting Jordan Nestrud, 6-1, 6-2, while Lenz Theodor added another impressive bout at No. 6, topping Drew Grimaldi, 6-0, 6-3.

Bayliss and McLoughlin also posted victories, with the former earning a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 and the latter notching a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 5.

Butler returns to action on Wednesday (March 11) when it battles Case Western Reserve University in Charleston, S.C.
