Bulldogs Fall To Hartwick, 3-0, In First Round Of Adam's Mark SoccerFest VII

Senior Neil McLean and junior Rob Catana each scored a first-half goal to lead a speedyt Hartwick squad to a 3-0 victory over host Butler in the first round of the 2002 Butler University Adam's Mark SoccerFest VII at Kuntz Stadium on Friday, Sept. 13. The win lifted Hartwick to 3-1-1 on the season, while Butler fell to 1-5.
McLean gave the Hawks the lead for good with a goal at the 22:58 mark of the first half. The Hartwick midfielder took a long cross from teammate Ymeric Sanon and blasted a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner. It was McLean's third goal of the season.
Catana made it 2-0 five minutes later on a penalty kick from the top of the box. It was his second goal of the year.
Hartwick added to its lead in the second half when Damien Charlton took a lob pass from Catana and dropped a shot into the left corner of the net past Butler's diving goalkeeper Grant Barrie. The goal was Charlton's first of the season.
Hartwick had a slim, 10-8, edge in shots in the contest. Barrie, who fell to 1-4 on the season, finished with three saves, while Randall Moate of the Hawks tallied four saves. Moate picked up his third shutout of the 2002 campaign.
Hartwick will meet #9 Indiana in the second round of the Adam's Mark SoccerFest VII on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 12 noon, while Butler will square off against Air Force in the day's second match at approximately 2 p.m. Indiana defeated Air Force, 2-0, in the first match of the tournament.
