David Winner, a former professional soccer goalkeeper, has assumed a full-time position with the Bulldogs, after serving as a volunteer assistant coach last season. He has primary responsibility for Butler?s goalkeepers. Winner brings extensive experience from a five-year stint with Major League Soccer. From 1996 to 2000, he was associated with nine of the 12 MLS teams. He also played goalkeeper for the Indiana Blast. A Parade All-American goalkeeper at Western High School in Davie, Fla., Winner began his collegiate playing career at Florida International University. He transferred to the University of Tampa after one year and played three seasons with the Spartans. He helped Tampa to a national championship in 1994 and a national runner-up finish in 1992. He earned his degree from Tampa in 1994. Previously, Winner had volunteer coaching stints at Tampa and at Western High School.
