Mike Rivas is in his third season on the Butler men's soccer coaching staff. He serves as the team's primary fitness trainer, while assisting in other areas of team development.
Rivas joined the Bulldogs' staff after spending two years as Director of Coaching for the Gainsville Soccer Alliance and as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Florida. He managed 250 club members and a staff of 25-30 coaches, and he was responsible for all administrative work with the Gainsville Soccer Alliance. At Florida, he assisted with daily operations and was responsible for game day scouting reports. He further was involved with on-campus recruiting, assisted in player training and helped organize Florida's soccer camps. Rivas also served as Club Coach/Operations Manager for Real Colorado, 1998-2002, and as Technical Director for FC Bozeman (Montana), 2002-04.
Rivas was a four-year starter and three-year team captain on the men's soccer team at Liberty University (1985-88). He later played professional soccer with the Charlotte Eagles, 1994-96, where he was a teammate of Butler head coach Kelly Findley, and with the Colorado Foxes, 1997. He helped the Charlotte Eagles to a pair of appearances in the national finals.
Rivas earned a B.S. degree in health education from Liberty in 1989 and a Master's Degree in public health from the University of Northern Colorado in 1998. He is NCAA certified, and he holds a USSF "B" license. He and his wife, Amy, have three children, Cole, Taylor and Zachary.
