David Costa is in his second season on Butler's coaching staff and in his first season as a full-time assistant coach. He has assumed the title of recruiting coordinator for the Bulldogs, and he has taken on additional coaching responsibilities within the program.

Costa joined Kelly Findley's staff in 2006 after spending one season as a volunteer assistant coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition to his soccer coaching duties at Charlotte, Costa served as Community Services Coordinator in the Charlotte 49ers Athletic Academic Center. He also served as a Soccer Trainer/Game Coach for the Charlotte United Futbol Club, 2004-06.

Costa was a four-year varsity soccer player at Charlotte, 2000-03, during the time that Findley was serving as an assistant coach for the 49ers. He played in 42 matches during his collegiate career, and he received the David Schlee Memorial Award for determination and desire to succeed as a member of the men's soccer program. In his senior season, Costa helped the 49ers reach the finals of the Conference USA Men's Soccer Championship for just the second time in school history. During his tenure on the men's soccer team, Costa assisted with the NCAA-sponsored Youth Education through Sports (YES) clinic three times.

Costa earned B.A. degrees in psychology and history in 2004 and a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies from Charlotte in 2005.
