Shiell, Davis Pace Bulldogs At Gladstein Invitational

Jan. 26, 2008

Sophomore Marbeth Shiell and freshman Tommy Davies turned in lifetime best performances to lead Butler's track and field squad at the non-scoring Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 25-26). The two-day meet held at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse featured 50 total events.

Shiell and Davies both placed sixth in the invitational 3,000 meter run. Shiell finished the women's race in 10:00.88, the best indoor time of her young career. Davies also posted an indoor best with a time of 8:24.26 in the men's competition.

The Bulldogs also had several strong performances in the invitational mile event. Freshman Andy Baker made his 2008 indoor debut for Butler, and he wound up placing 4th in the men's mile race with a time of 4:10.87. Seniors Genni Gardner and Claire Holme finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the women's mile run. Gardner posted a time of 5:00.71, narrowly edging Holme, who finished in 5:00.84.

Butler's top finish in the meet was turned in by the women's distance medley squad of Gardner, senior Kristi Hertzler, senior Isabelle Stoate and Holme. That quartet placed runner-up with a time of 12:00.06, just under three seconds behind champ Louisville.
