Brown Deer, Wis. - The Butler women's swimming team closed out the 2009 Horizon League Championship in stellar fashion on Saturday (Feb. 28), picking up five of the program's top-five times at the Schroeder YMCA. Sarah Lynne Gates notched two of the fastest individual times in school history, while Stephanie Moles and Leigh Weston each tallied one.

Moles cut a minute and six seconds off her previous season-best while recording the second-fastest 1,650 freestyle time in school history with a swim of 18:36.05. Gates, meanwhile, posted the program's second-best 200 backstroke time with a swim of 2:11.14 to finish 13th in the event.

Weston added to her dominance in the breaststroke events, claiming a win in the B-Final for ninth-place with a lifetime-best swim of 2:24.03 - the third-fastest time in school history.

The Bulldogs closed the tournament with one of the fastest 400 freestyle relay times in program history, as the quartet of Gates, Moles, Libby Bates and Katie Krueger cut over 11 seconds off their season best time while recording the third-fastest mark in school history with a time of 3:40.76. Additionally, Gates swam the opening 100 yard leg of the relay in a swift 53.56 - a personal-best time for the Butler senior and the fourth-fastest time in the history of the program.

Butler posted six other swims that featured lifetime-best times.

Bates trimmed over four seconds off her personal-best time in the 200 back with a swim of 2:22.43, Kendall Wormley knocked off more than seven seconds for a personal-best 2:26.52 and Maria Keyler chopped off over four seconds from her lifetime best in the event with a time of 2:32.53.

Allison Qualls put up a strong showing in the 200 fly, swimming the event in 2:29.80 to best her lifetime-fast mark by more than nine seconds.

Krueger topped her season-best time in the 100 freestyle with a swim of 56.78, while Allison Shafer beat her best time in the 200 breast by more than three seconds, posting a time of 2:39.36.

Butler finished the meet in eighth place with a total of 134 points. The Green Bay women's team claimed the women's team title, while UIC picked up the men's championship.
