Steve Roberts was one of the most prolific performers in Butler football history. He finished as the Bulldogs' all-time leading rusher and all-time leading scorer, and he set Butler single game, single season and career records for points, touchdowns and rushing yards. He was a four-year varsity letterwinner, a three-time Butler Offensive Most Valuable Player, a three-time, first team all-conference running back, a two-time Heartland Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and a two-time Kodak All-American! The talented tailback was a finalist (one of eight players) for the Harlon Hill Trophy, given to the best football player in the NCAA Division II, in both 1988 and 1989. He led the nation (NCAA Division II) in scoring in 1988, and he finished second in the nation in rushing in both 1987 and 1988. Roberts rushed for 4,623 yards in four seasons with the Bulldogs, becoming the only player in Butler history to rush for more than 4,000 yards, and he finished his career with 63 touchdowns and 386 points.
